The Burro Grande is a robust vehicle weighing 1200 lbs and equipped with over 12 HP. Due to its size and power, improper assembly or disassembly can lead to unsafe behaviors and operational risks.
General Guidelines
To ensure safe operation and maintenance of the BURRO Grande, please adhere to the following guidelines:
Consultation:
- Always consult a BURRO representative before attempting any servicing or maintenance beyond general cleaning.
Power Off Procedures:
- DO NOT place hands or feet anywhere within the BURRO without first turning off the unit and disconnecting both batteries.
- DO NOT open the electrical box (Brain Box) without first turning off the unit and disconnecting both batteries.
- DO NOT perform any hardware maintenance (such as replacing a screen or tire) without first turning off the unit and disconnecting both batteries.
Working with Motors and Sensors
To ensure safe operation, please adhere to the following guidelines when disconnecting or reconnecting motors and sensor connections:
Raise the Robot
Always elevate the Burro Grande before working on motor and sensor connections. This provides access while ensuring stability.
Function Testing
After any assembly or disassembly tasks, conduct a thorough functionality test before returning the robot to active use. This step is critical to verify that all systems are operating correctly and safely.

Test setup
Raise the Burro Grande
Elevate the robot off the ground, ensuring that it cannot move if the wheels spin at any speed. Ensure that the wheels are completely free of obstructions. Refer to the Lifting and Hoisting Procedures for Burro Maintenance for guidance on how to safely lift the unit.
Power On the Burro Grande
Once the robot is securely raised, power on the Burro Grande.
Function Testing Steps
Wait for UI to Load
Allow the user interface (UI) to fully load after powering on the device.
Engage Manual Control
Stand to the side of the Burro Grande for safety.Press the forward and reverse buttons located on the yellow control panel at the front and rear of the robot.
Check Directions
Confirm that pressing the forward button causes the robot to move forward. Confirm that pressing the reverse button causes the robot to move in reverse.
Engage Person follow mode
Access the UI and activate the person-following feature. While the Burro Grande is still elevated, observe the following: The robot should spin its wheels in the correct direction of travel. Ensure that the robot detects you as a person. Observe that the robot beeps for obstacles as you approach.
Final Steps
Once all checks are successfully performed, you may lower the Burro Grande to the ground.The robot can now be put into service.
